Sosua

Sosua is situated on the nordcoast of the Dominican Republic, 20 kilometers east of Puerto Plata and 5 kilometers of the airport. This small village has grown in a short period of time into one of the most popular seaside places of the Dominican Republic.

Sosua is divided into two quarters seperated by a bay and the one kilometer white sandy beach with bars, souvenirshops and small restaurants. To the east from the Sosua-beach you'll find the quarter Los Charamicos, before a small, quiet village, but now the residence of the Dominicans who work in the hotels in the quarter El Batey. It is really worth visiting this typical Dominican quarter; busy streets and the merengue-music sounds loudly in the streets. Almost all restaurants here serve exclusive local dishes, in some places you can eat excellent fish here.

The centre of the square El Batey consists of a long, lively street (Calle Pedro Clisante) with shops, several restaurants and bars. In the highseason they have often live-music like merengue and salsa. Close to the square El Batey there is a casino.

There are five different beaches around Sosua, the biggest Sosua-beach, at 950 meters of the resort, is 1 kilometer long and 30 meters width. This beautiful beach is surrounded by palmtrees and souvenirshops, bars and small restaurants behind. Sunchairs and parasols are for rent. La Playita-beach is smaller, about 150 meters long and 75 meters width, with on both sides rocks and cocotrees. Although it is situated in front of hotel Casa Marina visitors are welcome. There are some smaller, very quiet beaches with just a few sunchairs and few facilities.
